With so much competition in the automotive industry, it is quite difficult to pick out one particular car manufacturer that is regarded as the “favourite” or the “biggest”. There are also a few surprises in that you might think some are rivals when in fact they are part of the same group. For example, many moons ago it was put to me by a good friend that Audi was a much more profitable and structured manufacturer than Volkswagen. His face was a picture when I informed him that VW were in fact the parent company of Audi and actually owned them! But this is the case for a number of others in the industry also and there seems to be this continuous business merry go round that sees certain manufacturers buy shares in other manufacturers. This is especially the case whenever a certain brand is in financial difficulties. Volkswagen are often seen to be one of the leaders in this area of increasing their overall presence in the marketplace as they have, on more than a few occasions, dipped into their pockets and invested in either up and coming manufacturers or the competition. Of course as consumers and car enthusiasts most of us will look at Volkswagen from one point of view only (the cars that they sell) but for others, the business side of things is equally as interesting. On the subject of cars though, the company has produced many new and used Volkswagen cars over the years and continue to be at the forefront of the industry in terms of vehicle design and technological innovations.

Vauxhall have been around for as long as I can remember and to this day, they continue to make cars that are of extreme relevance in line with the demands of the industry. Take the used Vauxhall Astra for example; this is a car that has been around the block more than its fair share of times and is regarded by many as being Vauxhall’s main and most value vehicle. It provides a little bit of everything; space, speed and power and it is just one of those cars that are liked by the masses. Then there is the Corsa; a small and compact vehicle that is ever present on the nations’ road. The Corsa has been a feasible choice for many buyers thanks to its overall structure and the fact that it is a reliable and fun car to drive. So what of the others in the Vauxhall range? A nippy and compact unit, the new and used Vauxhall Tigra is one that commands respect and will suit the needs of inner city drivers that need to get from A to B, run errands and do so in style. Another noticeable unit that Vauxhall has in its armoury is the Zafira, which is very much a family orientated vehicle that is regarded by many to be the very best in its class. The sheer size and performance of this particular Vauxhall are just some of the reasons why so many give it this pedestal and based on sales number alone, it is hard to come to any other conclusion. So all in all Vauxhall have it covered; sports cars, city cars and family cars – what more could you possible want from a manufacturer?!

I must admit that when the old used Smart cars were first introduced I was one of the many people that didn’t take them too seriously; a flash in the pan, they won’t last long kind of guy. Maybe this was because I, like many others, of the impression that these mini-type vehicles were left behind in the 1960’s; yet suddenly had resurfaced promising to assist the environment. Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the iconic used Mini’s of yesteryears, but things have certainly evolved since then and even Mini themselves have re-designed their main unit to fit in with modern times. So when the used Smart car was introduced, it appeared at first glance that it was a step backwards. Of course, divulging further into what the unit offered provided a much better insight into the real offerings that Mercedes-Benz Smart had constructed. The saying that “you should never judge a book by its cover” was clearly valid and pertinent in this situation and I have since grown to find new and used Smart cars a pleasant and satisfying choice given the constant increases in fuel prices. Also, given the fact that the new government (as well as the past regime) are now in a constant battle with car manufacturers to build more eco-friendly automobiles; it has made the profile of Mercedes-Benz Smart grow to high heights. So if you are thinking about buying a new car and fuel efficiency and running costs are in mind; purchasing a Smart car will make for a decent choice.

These days it appears that all car manufacturers have one particular vehicle in their range that can be described as being their flagship and most recognised vehicle. In the case of SEAT it is the Ibiza that is without doubt the stand out model and has been for quite some time. So why is this? Why is the used SEAT Ibiza the number one choice for SEAT consumers? As we all know very well the sales of new cars is going down and down these months. Such situation is of course caused by the economy crisis. But how is the used cars market doing? Is it going to benefit now where the rest of the car industry (producers especially) is undergoing a major collapse? I guess the answer would be yes. The price reductions and the promotions will never be as attractive as the prize of a used car, even if it’s only one year old, yet still much better equipped that the promotional version. And here comes the question: how often do you change your car and what do you do to get rid of the old one? Do you sell it on a website or try to advertise it in a local press at the lowest possible cost? Or maybe you just park it on the street with the price displayed behind its front window? What is the best source to sell and buy used cars without being cheated on? Or shall I say it – what is the most credible source? Now car purchasing has become fun again which can’t be said of car selling. How to sell used cars?

It seems that there is quite a bit of online and offline advertising being undertaken by certain van manufacturers and commercial vehicle outlets. I counted at least three different promotions via the radio this morning from the likes of Renault, Peugeot and Mercedes. They all highlighted that eve with the current credit crunch people should not “worry” as they have exclusive and unbeatable offerings currently available. I suppose when we are in a situation like we are, there needs to be some kind of rapport between businesses and customers. Maybe then, with all these van offers on show, the customer will have more of a bargaining power with each dealership as van sales are currently much harder to come by. Maybe that salesman will be easier to work with and that costs could be further reduced? You would think that this would be the case as it seems long gone are the days where not only used vans, but most vehicles were in total demand by the public. Used vans
